Operate remote or local switchboard controlling generators/motors with exciters and regulator equipment.
Coordinate operation of plants and dams to satisfy flood control, stream flow, power contract commitments, and other requirements.
Maintain communication with the dispatching offices of the connected utilities for the operation of the powerhouse as part of an interconnected power system.
Compiles river stage and rainfall data and reports the data to the district office daily.
Uses the station electrical and mechanical drawings in the performance of switching and operating procedures.
Monitor security systems which detect unauthorized entry into meteorological stations, powerhouses, microwave sites, and Resource Offices.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position is a Testing Designated Position under the U. S. Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Civilian Drug Testing Program.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
Rotating shifts and weekends may be required.
Pre-employment and periodic physical examination may be required based on exact location of position.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Power Plant Shift Operator without more than normal supervision.
The ability to perform the most difficult and complex Power Plant Shift Operator task. I have served as sole contact for all matters involving the operation of a power production complex and responsible for on-the-spot decisions for the operation of the facilities. I have independently and with a high degree of proficiency operated and maintained water control structures and one or more powerhouses, switchyards and dams.
- Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
PHYSICAL EFFORT- The work requires prolonged standing and walking, and climbing, crouching, stooping, twisting, pulling, pushing, and kneeling. Eye and hand coordination is required to operate switches and controls. The incumbent is required to operate large valves, apply servolocks, lift deck hatches, and perform other jobs requiring pulling or turning force. Lifts and carries items weighing up to 20 pounds. Must be able to distinguish the colors red and green and have good vision and hearing.
WORKING CONDITIONS- Works on a rotating shift, inside, in well-lighted work areas with occasional work outside in switchyards and substations in a variety of weather conditions. The incumbent is subject to electric hazards when working around high voltage equipment, mechanical hazards when working around rotating equipment, and constant noise from continuously operating machinery. The use of provided appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment to minimize or eliminate hazardous condition is mandatory.
