Summary

This position is located within Environmental Management Services of a Wilmington VAMC. The primary purpose of this position is to exercise technical and administrative supervision over subordinate workers in supporting and performing task (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the EMS goals and objectives. Tours of duty may vary depending on the internal department needs with weekdays, weekends, day and evening shift schedules.

Serves as a working supervisor providing unit supervision of Environmental Management Staff at any of the divisions/campuses and/or facilities. Primary role is to provide supervision and quality of work oversight related to all aspects of EMS including inspections, training, monitoring work flow and coordinating/researching of various cleaning techniques. As a working supervisor, the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor oversees a unit comprised of a Housekeeping Aid Work leader, several Housekeeping Aids and CWT employees. At times, the Housekeeping Aid Supervisor may be required to covered additional units, unpopular tours as required by the staffing needs.

The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor provides facility care services such as sanitation, housekeeping, bed management, bed cleaning, waste management (WM), Regulated Medical Waste-RMW, Sharps Containers-RMW, assisting with integrated pest control, assisting with laundry, linen distribution services, employee uniforms, patient effects services, lost and found services, interior window cleaning, recycling, environment of care (EOC) rounds, system delivery, Green Tracker and waste management. The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is responsible for serving as the first line supervision, adjusting assignments to ensure smooth work flow, meeting daily/shift goals and objectives, checking work production, performing written quality assurance checklists, inspections and communicating tasks/ projects to employees. Coordinates production work, issuing tasks, duties and assignments, taking daily attendance, time keeping, issuing keys and overseeing key stewardship/key security control. Expected to conduct physical and visual inspection of beds, rooms and other spaces space before and after the room/space is serviced by EMS staff.Provides contract officer representative (COR) with assistance with tasks such as checking contractor work assignments, tracking and monitoring work of contractors, approval and certification of work, signing manifests, signing certifications, collection of invoices and work permits from contractors,

The Housekeeping Aid Supervisor is required to issue disciplinary actions, evaluate housekeeping employees related to performance and for the development of performance improvement plans. Periodically required to use computer and common software to communicate such as outlook, phones, word, excel, vista, and assist unit employees with VATMS, log in and out as may be needed for review the employee to learn, view and print pay check stubs, eOPF records, etc.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
