Duties

Help
  • You will perform blocking and bracing duties in connection with the loading and unloading of a variety of material requiring special handling.
  • You will utilize rings, chains and binders when shipment is completed by railcar.
  • You will determine load configuration utilizing weight, dimensions, and size of conveyance.
  • You will work from drawings, specifications or oral instructions concerning the type of item, overall size and shape and any special features required.
  • You will select and use a variety of hand and power tools and fastening devices.
  • You will construct skids or crates for a wide variety of materials requiring special handling and packaging.
  • You will pack a variety of supplies and equipment including hazardous materials using a wide range of packing containers, materials, devices, methods and techniques.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Forklift Operator license
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • You may be required to obtain and maintain a government vehicle operator permit.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to perform common tasks for a Blocker & Bracer, as demonstrated by experience, working under close supervision following procedures to select proper materials to take measurements, cuts and installing blocking, bracing, wedges, etc., to prevent shifting; securing chock blocks and side plates to prevent movement in transit; utilizing a variety of wooden boxes, crates, pallets, skids, braces, chock blocs, and special containers; using a variety of hand/power tools to work with wood.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: the ability to perform some of the tasks for a Blocker & Bracer, as demonstrated by experience, working under normal supervision following procedures to select proper materials to take measurements, cuts and installing blocking, bracing, wedges, etc., to prevent shifting; securing chock blocks and side plates to prevent movement in transit; constructing a variety of wooden boxes, crates, pallets, skids, braces, chock blocs, and special containers; selecting and using a variety of hand/power tools to work with wood.
