Duties

Help
  • Based on the patient's condition, open and maintain the airway (using the head-tilt maneuver, jaw thrust maneuver, face down modified jaw thrust maneuver, and esophageal obturator airway technique).
  • Perform pulmonary resuscitation if breathing fails to start spontaneously upon the opening of the airway, using such techniques as mouth-to-mouth, mouth-to-nose, BVM, ET tube, cricothyroidotomy,
  • Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including advanced life support techniques, such as IV insertion, intubation, administration of drugs, etc., varying the approach for small children/infants or defibrillate cardiac arrest victims.
  • Determine the need and equipment to provide appropriate life support, e.g., oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal airways.
  • Accurately determine blood pressure readings to be used in conjunction with a variety of symptoms to identify the nature of the shock.
  • Determine the causes and basic medical implications of closed and open soft tissue wounds and treat appropriately.

  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.

  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the employee to wear a uniform, scrubs, or other appropriate medical professional attire while on duty.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain the Washington State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) certification for Paramedic or the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT), within twelve months of employment.

Qualifications

This is a Term position NOT TO EXCEED (NTE) 2 years and may be extended up to a total of six years.

This position MAY be made permanent without further competition contingent upon verification of the incumbent's non-competitive eligibility (must be a 30% veteran, reinstatement eligible, etc., under competitive service).

This position may be filled as a Temporary Promotion or a Temporary Reassignment and may be extended for current Department of Army employees. At the end of this period, you will return to your permanent position of record, or to a different position of equivalent grade and pay.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes responding to accidents or emergencies involving injuries and/or illnesses, conducting examinations to obtain patient vital signs, initiating intravenous (IV) therapy, and/or operating a patient transport vehicle.


Licensure/Certification: This position requires the incumbent to submit a copy of their Washington State Emergency Medical Services (EMS) certification for EMT-(P) at the time of application and the National Registry for Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) 1 Year after employment.
