Duties

Help
  • Provide a combination of technical (nonprofessional medical) and administrative tasks related to the Advance Life Support (ALS) treatment and care of patients in an emergency environment inside and outside the MTF/MC emergency room setting.
  • Conduct intake procedures obtains general medical information, including allergies and drug sensitivities; and takes and records vital signs.
  • Recognize, stabilize, and provide emergent health care to a range of patients presenting with complex or multiple emergency systems dysfunctions.
  • Act as liaison between patients and the primary professional medical care provider.

  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 100 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees are required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position requires to have and maintain a valid, unrestricted State Emergency Medical Technician license.
  • Position requires a valid National Registry Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (NREMT-B) certification.
  • Position requires an Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) advanced certification; and/or Paramedic Certification (NRP).
  • Position requires to have and maintain a current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
  • Position requires to have and maintain a current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • The employee may be recalled to duty from scheduled time off.
  • May be required to work on any day or shift, including rotating shifts and/or irregular tour of duty to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays.
  • Position requires to obtain and maintain NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700, and 800 level training within six months of hire.
  • Occasional TDY.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes responding to emergencies; patient assessments; providing emergency medical interventions and care; and transporting ill and/or injured patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
