Administers, analyzes and refines the Force Support Squadron local area network (LAN) and FSS wide area network (WAN) systems. This LAN/WAN is referred to as the FSS.NET. Monitors, tests, analyses, maintains, and operates multiple base level operating systems network platforms, including NIPR, EISP, E2NET, REC-TRAC, Qubica, and DLS (Defense Lodging System). Acts as the Coordinate in the planning, development, configuration, installation, and maintenance of network systems to include the LAN/WAN. Analyzes LAN/WAN utilization statistics through data collection and performance measure to ensure smooth, reliable, and robust operation of unclassified networks. Determines if the facility environment can provide for network system requirements, and infrastructure is in place and capable to support the applicable systems. Coordinates LAN installation, implementation, maintenance, troubleshooting; reviews, evaluation and fine-tunes component to include hubs, switches, and routers to achieve peak efficiency within the overall network connectivity. Installs, configures, and troubleshoots network and application server hardware, network operating system software, and peripheral network equipment to include routers, bridges, cabling system, network interface cards, modems, multiplexers, and concentrators. Changes the components of existing equipment for efficient operation or recommends major modifications to existing systems. Consults with managers and functional users to determine common requirements necessary to meet Information Technology (IT) business processes and needs. Performs analysis of current systems to determine which are capable of supporting functional requirements. Makes professional recommendations and judgments regarding systems continual usage, which should be enhanced and or replaced by more advanced designs. Analyzes processes, problem activities, and system designs of the FSS activities to comply with legal and regulatory requirements while meeting customer needs. Plans, coordinates, and installs applications software and hardware for operational and point-of-sale systems. Optimizes the functionality and performance of hardware and software systems and ensures availability, integrity, efficiency and reliability of services. Runs tests to verify operability and functionality; analyzes hardware and software malfunctions to resolve physical and logical processing problems; and recommends acquisition of programs or equipment which will resolve operational problems. Initiates corrective or preventative measures to rectify immediate problems and prevent future occurrences. Performs testing, troubleshoots, and corrects problems relative to interface and interoperability of-System components such as hardware, systems software, and applications programs. Provides proactive consultation, recommendation, and documentation to systems users to ensure seamless implementation of changes. Provides customer technical assistance support and conducts feasibility studies to analyzed FSS.NET LAN failures. Provides on going technical support to customers to ensure proper functional use of equipment and programs to preclude undue interruptions to IT services. Interfaces with customers to ensure efficient operations which support business requirements. Assists in solving problems associated with delivery of hardware and software orders. Provides management with necessary information to address difficult and complex problems in automating work processes. Promotes use of automated systems by providing instructions to functional area users on IT processes in to include databases and file accessing techniques, search strategies, processing and space utilization efficiencies database security procedures, backup and program recovery techniques, and testing techniques works with customers to resolve integrating or configuration related issues associated with a variety of different system. Platforms, operating systems, applications, and desktop configuration. Participates with operating officials, system programmers, computer users, and others to analyze progress review of established systems to determine reliability, productivity, and user friendliness of the existing network system hardware and software. Performs independent research of literature for applicable systems. Assists with providing cost analyses for new and upgraded network infrastructure capabilities. Keeps abreast of changes in technology to assist management in preparing for future enhancements. Provides inputs for future needs and prepares recommendations, justifications, and specifications for equipment and applications. Examines and evaluates alternative means of satisfying user requirements and makes recommendations to management regarding the most effective and efficient approaches.
