The United States Space Force (USSF) at Peterson Space Force Base is searching for a Force Design Branch Chief, Missile Warning, Tracking, and Defense (MWTD) (NH-0801-03, GS-12/13 equivalent).

We're looking for a Force Design Branch Chief for the Missile Warning, Tracking, and Defense (MWTD) Division of the Space Warfighting Analysis Center's (SWAC) Multi-Domain Sensing Program (MDSP). This person will lead a fast-paced, high-visibility, multi-disciplined team of government, contractor, and Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) members to directly shape the future of the Space Force and advise senior leader decision makers across USSF, DAF, and OSD. This position will direct modeling, simulation, and analysis activities to identify candidate remote sensing space and ground architecture alternatives and evaluate their performance, resiliency, and affordability to create recommendations for future systems. This will require collaboration and coordination across the DoD, intelligence community (IC), other government agencies, defense industry partners, and potentially Allied defense partners to develop authoritative Force Design recommendations for space-based MWTD capabilities that satisfy joint force mission needs.
Ideal Candidate:
- Graduate degree in engineering, computer science, physics, remote sensing, space operations, or related technical field is required.
- Current TS//SCI or current single scope background investigation is required.
- Consent to polygraph is required.
- Experience with space-based overhead persistent infrared (OPIR) capabilities and the application of the capabilities to DoD weapon systems is required.
- Experience with force design, analysis of alternatives, modeling, simulation, analysis to include parametric assessments, scenario-based simulation, and cost assessment is highly desired.
- Ability to guide technical teams to develop and assess remote sensing alternates for DoD missions is highly desired.
- Experience leading multi-disciplinary, highly technical, teams is desired.
- Familiarity with Model-Based System Engineering (MBSE) is desired.
- Experience briefing highly technical topics to senior leaders is desired.
- Experience writing, reviewing, and editing technical reports and briefings desired.
- Current (within 5 years) CI polygraph desired.
Key Skills and Abilities:
1: Experience applying space systems engineering concepts, principles, practices, standards, methods, techniques, materials, and equipment to effectively apply advanced engineering theories, principles, and concepts to space system capabilities and architecture definitions.
2: Experience with development engineering methodologies sufficient to apply experimental theories and/or new applications to issues and provide technical advice and direction in support of weapon systems, subsystems, and/or support equipment.
3: Knowledge of systems engineering practices and procedures as they pertain to concept development, trade space exploration, modeling and simulation methods, performance and cost evaluation, and resiliency analysis to execute significant projects which represent an important segment of the agency's operating program.
4: Knowledge of the principles of planning/program management; of standard acquisition regulations, practices, and procedures; and of engineering disciplines used in support of system design, sustainment, modification, and maintenance programs.
5: Ability to devise and evaluate criteria, parameters, characteristics, and interrelationships for design approaches; to assess the impact of new technology on current systems and processes; and to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, form conclusions, and devise and recommend solutions to problems.
6: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy, both orally and in writing, as well as work in a professional manner with peers, management, contractors, academia, and other agencies.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret / SCI security clearance.
Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
May be required travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
This position is not eligible remote / telework work.

An advanced engineering or science degree at the masters level from an ABET accredited institution is highly desired.
