The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Operations Command (SpOC) at Schriever Space Force Base is searching for a Mission Planner (NH-0343-03).

Description:
Come work for Delta 9, space mission Orbital Warfare (OW), and be a part of the team who prepares, presents, and projects assigned and attached forces for the purpose of conducting protect and defend operations to provide national decision authorities with response options to deter and, when necessary, defeat orbital threats!

This position serves as a mission planner and training subject matter expert for the 1st Space Operations Squadron (1 SOPS) Mission Planning Cell (MPC), providing detailed analysis and planning for all 1 SOPS mission operations. If you have a knack for program analysis; a subject matter expert-level of knowledge in advanced orbital theories, principles, concepts, standards, and methods; and the ability to work with enterprise-level organizations and leadership, then come join our team and leave a legacy in the OW mission set in the United States Space Force.

The ideal candidate should possess a subject matter expert-level knowledge of mission planning principles, methods, and practices; system modifications and the latest technology advancements in ground or space system deliveries; performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods; and operational ground and space systems, associated devices, and the interoperability of systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain ground and space systems and their supporting applications and tools. Candidate must be able to obtain/maintain a Top-Secret w/SCI clearance and approval to access the portolio of Special Access Programs required to perform the daily duties of this position. Furthermore, the ideal candidate will possess a knowledge of computer programming including Python and Java.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of mission planning principles, methods, and practices for integrating information and mission system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems, and optimize system performance.
2. Knowledge of the system modifications, latest technology advancements and capabilities in upcoming ground or space system deliveries in order to effectively incorporate into operations by timely updating processes and procedures, and initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure optimum performance of systems.
3. Knowledge of performance tuning tools, database management, and project management methods sufficient to optimize systems performance, troubleshoot database performance problems, and perform a wide range of systems administration functions.
4. Knowledge of operational ground and space systems associated devices, and the interoperability of systems sufficient to install, upgrade, troubleshoot, test, and maintain ground and space systems and their supporting applications and tools; to optimize the functionality and performance of systems; and to ensure the availability, integrity, efficiency, and reliability of system applications and tools.
5. Ability to apply methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving system applications and tools to solve complex problems and provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers.
6. Ability to communicate clearly and sufficiently both orally and in writing.
7. Knowledge of orbital mechanics for orbit determination and trajectory propagation, along with the ability to think in 3-dimensions and visualize/describe basic Keplerian motion by using standard software applications implementing orbital mechanics.
8. Knowledge of military (including command level) program goals and objectives; the sequence and timing of key operational events and milestones; methods of evaluating the effectiveness of planning actions related to actual events; and the relationship of the various command entities involved in overall program planning and execution of military operations and evaluations.

  • This position is on-site and eligible for telework, 2-4 days per pay period.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret w/SCI clearance.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and/or classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • Employee needs to obtain and maintain approval to access the portfolio of Special Access Programs required to perform daily duties.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis, and non-standard work hours per mission requirements.
  • Knowledge of computer programming including Python and Java.
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to pre-employment drug testing as a condition of employment, and participation in random drug testing.
  • Employee is in a designated position that requires consent and thereafter be subject to and successfully complete, an initial, periodic and random counterintelligence (CI)-scope polygraph examination as a condition of employment.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • PCS and relocation funding are not available.
