Duties

Help

As a working leader, performs the following types of duties: provides day-to-day advice and guidance to employees for work assignments; relays instructions from the supervisor for work assignments; gets the work started and sets the work pace; demonstrates work methods and provides work-related guidance; ensures that worksite materials and tools are available; and ensures that employees are trained and follow security, safety and housekeeping rules. Sets up cafeteria lines, tables and chairs, with hot and cold food items including salads, fruits, wrapped sandwiches, desserts, bread and soups and beverages. Serves food cafeteria style. Breaks down and cleans area when meals are complete. Sets up tables and chairs for service, replenishes items as necessary. Performs preventive maintenance and cleaning. Scrapes, soaks, scours and scrubs bowls, pots and pans and dishes. Also performs heavy duty cleaning tasks such as ceilings, exhaust hoods, under and behind kitchen equipment, washes floors and walls, walk-in refrigerators and freezers, sanitizes garbage cans. May unload food from delivery trucks. Collects and transfers trash from work area to disposal area. Assembles and tosses fresh fruit or green salads in quantity using prepared dressings, serves into standard serving sizes. Makes cold sandwiches using prepared ingredients. Makes coffee, tea and other beverages. Operates cash register, accepts payment from customer and gives change.

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers Certificate and/or complete food handlers training.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations
  • This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent must pass a pre-employment drug test and is subject to random drug testing.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to drive. If selected for this position, incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their Official Driving Record.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical and able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Ability to lead three or more workers to accomplish food service duties. Knowledge of sanitation standards in handling and serving food. Must be able to follow simple oral instructions, be able to use hand tools for cleaning, and operate simple machines. Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgement in sequencing tasks. Must be at least I 8 years of age. Must be physically able to frequently lift or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand and walk, and frequently stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical. Experience in the operation of a cash register, direct handling of cash items, and cash accountability is desired.

Education

This position does not allow for education substitution.
