Help
  • Manufacture first production parts and complete items of Ammunition Peculiar Equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metals and metal alloys.
  • Perform machining work required in the manufacture of castings, metal forgings, weldments, and other fabrications.
  • Set up and operate machine tools such as mills, surface grinders, lathes, and numerically controlled machine tools.
  • Plans and layout work from blueprints, drawings, sketches, and oral instructions.
  • Assemble manufactured parts per the assembly prints to complete the ordered product.

Qualifications

About the Position: The Joint Munitions Command provides the Joint Force with ready, reliable, lethal munitions at the speed of war. JMC's mission is to support the production, storage, distribution, and demilitarization of munitions. This position will manufacture production parts and complete items of equipment from raw stock of different kinds of metals and metal alloys located at the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant, which is a subordinate installation of JMC.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Machinist ~ without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common Machinist duties such as manufacturing, repairing, and rebuilding equipment parts and item; set up, operate, program, and maintain Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) machinery; check requirements for drawings and written instructions; use basic math; and a variety of tools. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work requires standing, bending and walking and frequent handling of objects weighing up to 10 pounds and occasionally lifting objects over 40 pounds. All lifts over 50 pounds will be assisted with a two person lift or using a mechanical handling equipment lifting device. The two person lift limit is 100 pounds and will only be used for single event, non-routine lifts.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Works in a well lit, heated, ventilated shop with concrete floors. Exposed to dust from grinding, oil from machines, dirt, heat, noises and fumes. Subject to the hazards of burns from hot metal chips, dust in the lungs, cuts, bruises, injuries to hands from use of machine and hand tools, skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants and abrasive compounds, and to strains from infrequent moving, lifting and handling of heavy items. Wears safety glasses, safety shoes and other safety apparel and equipment as required.
