Duties

Help
  • You will maintain all records required on patients to include data entry and retrieval on Composite Health Care System(CHCS), Armed Forces Health Longitudinal Application (AHLTA), Genesis, and other Electronic Health Records (EHR).
  • You will establish liaison with line commanders, military and civilian agencies and community resources, as necessary, to ensure continuity of care for patients.
  • You will understand and comply with the requirements of confidentiality as they apply to patient and health care provider during all aspects of care, and instruct personnel in the maintenance of rights for psychiatric patient.
  • You will prepare all outpatient records for scheduled appointments, print applicable medication reconciliation sheets to support scheduled appointments, and perform End of Day processing in accordance with instructions.
  • You will ensure infection control procedures are followed, and use appropriate infection control and safety techniques required.
  • You will perform psychiatric testing and screening evaluations as directed, and assist licensed providers.

  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience applying an extensive body of basic principles, concepts, rules, procedures and methodology that require extensive training and experience, involved in the provision of psychiatric mental health care and dual diagnosis services.
  • Experience interviewing and using supportive and productive interpersonal techniques to obtain pertinent information and provide counsel.
  • Experience being familiar with various psychological tests and/or mental health scales for administrative subjects, such as applying a practical knowledge of and skill sufficient to organize patient care activities and daily assignments for the purpose of providing optimal care for a patient load in an active clinical setting.
  • Experience documenting medical records effectively and using appropriate medical terminology to communicate effectively both orally and in writing via standard and electronic means.

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements.

NOTE: One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.

This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Incumbent must receive and maintain appropriate vaccination against seasonal influenza in accordance with BUMEDINST 6220.9B. Must be immunized on an annual basis against influenza.

Healthcare workers (HCW) will be offered the hepatitis B vaccine (HBV) or HBV immunity testing. HCW without documentation of HBV immunity or documentation of a completed HBV immunization series that decline the HBV shall be required to sign a hepatitis B immunization declination form prior to reporting to work. (Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center Technical Manual (NMCPHC-TM-OEM 6260.7 dated November 2010)

It is preferred that the incumbent meet the criteria established in one of the three scenarios below:

  1. Fully trained per requirements of the Department of the Navy or equivalent Department of Defense (DOD) service school for Psychiatric Technicians and possess at least a Level One National Certification as a Psychiatric Technician. Additionally, must possess at least 1 year of clinical psychiatric experience.
  2. Possess current Florida Certified Behavioral Health Technician and have completed at least 1 year of clinical psychiatric experience.
  3. Possess current Certification as a Psychiatric Technician by the American Association of Psychiatric Technician Level 2 or higher with 30 semester hours and at least 1 year of work in the field of mental health.
Per DoD instruction 1402.5 existing and newly hired personnel involved in the delivery of healthcare to children under the age of 18-years-old on a frequent and regular basis must receive:
  • Federal Bureau of investigation (FBI) fingerprint check
  • State Criminal History Repositories (SCHR) check
This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. Overtime, compensatory time and/or shift time may be required. Operational and mission requirements may necessitate working extended hours, including weekends and holidays or separate hours from the standard clinical hours.

This position requires the specialist to perform temporary duty travel of approximately 10%, both within and outside of CONUS is required. Travel may be by commercial (air, rail, POV, etc.) or government-operator (military aircraft, vessels or vehicle) or government-chartered carriers.

Physical required for embarkation aboard U.S. Naval vessels (USFFC/CPF Form 6320.1).

This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.
