Duties

Help

  • Implements plans, policies and procedures to comply with DOD, DA, OSHA and NGB safety regulations and directives.
  • Provides technical expertise to managers and supervisors in establishing techniques and procedures for the elimination or control of unsafe behaviors, environments and hazards.
  • Evaluates the effectiveness of organizational safety programs through activity visits.
  • Provides technical assistance in mishap investigations.
  • Presents safety budget requirements with justifications to superiors in support of the statewide ARNG safety program.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT & NOTES:

  • The incumbent of this position description must have, at a minimum, a completed National Agency Check (NAC) prior to position assignment.
  • Irregular and compensatory time may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
  • The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial vehicles to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • "This position is designated as Essential Personnel and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG."
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • May be subject to furlough actions.
  • Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare eligibility
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: 3 years of progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least GS-4, that demonstrates the ability to:

  1. Analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions;
  2. Plan and organize work; and
  3. Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: To qualify at the GS-11 level, you must have 1 year equivalent to at least next lower grade level experience, education, or training performing periodic/unscheduled inspections of base facilities, warehouses, and equipment maintenance operations and evaluated compliance with applicable regulations and hazard system. Recommended measures and methods to correct safety and occupational health deficiencies. Reviewed test implementation directives for inclusion of appropriate safety criteria. Candidate must have experience providing technical assistance in mishap investigations. Candidate has experience implementing plans, policies and procedures to comply with DOD, DA, OSHA and NGB safety regulations and directives. Experience providing technical expertise to managers and supervisors in establishing techniques and procedures for the elimination or control of unsafe behaviors, environments and hazards. Experience presenting safety budget requirements with justification to superiors in support of a safety program.

Education

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M., if related

Veterans' Preference: A copy of your DD Form 214 which must include character of service or a Statement of Service/Proof of Service which must include service dates and character of service. 3. You may obtain a letter from the Department of Veterans Affairs reflecting your level of disability for preference eligibility by visiting a VA Regional Office, contacting a VA call center or online.

NOTE: Prior to appointment, an agency will require the service member to provide a copy of the DD-214.

If claiming 10 point preference, you will need to submit a Standard Form, SF-15, "Application for 10-point Veterans' Preference."
