Duties

Help
  • Serves as a Library Technician at the Joint Forces Staff College (JFSC) Ike Skelton Library.
  • Completes recurring tasks and individual procedural assignments necessary to ensure the successful operations of a graduate level academic library.
  • Provides a full range of circulation and collection maintenance activities.
  • Assist with the inventory of office supplies and library specific supplies maintained by the library.
  • Explains library policies and regulations to patrons and instructs them in the use of library materials and equipment.

Qualifications

One year of specialized experience equivalent in level of difficulty and responsibility to that of the next lower grade GS-03 for GS-04, GS-04 for GS-05 and GS-05 for GS-06 within the federal service, which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position, is required.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-04: Generalized experience equivalent to the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience with working with library systems.

For the GS-05: Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience with working with library technical processes and library systems.

For the GS-06: Specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, or comparable in difficulty and responsibility if outside the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience working with library technical processes and library systems. You must demonstrate: Experience using an Integrated Library System (ILS) and experience cataloging library materials.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Substitution of Education for Specialized Experience is generally not applicable above GS-05, but may be considered if it is directly related to the position being filled.

Substitution of Education for Specialize Experience:

For the GS-04: Two years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required.

For the GS-05: Four years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation, or the equivalent, is a prerequisite may be substituted to meet the specialized experience required.

For the GS-06: A half year of successfully completed graduate level education in a field directly related to the position which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Library and Information Studies.

If you are using education to substitute for the specialized experience, you must submit transcripts at the time you apply.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to substitute for the specialized experience requirement.

To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (http://www2.ed.gov/admins/finaid/accred/index.html).

    • Qualifying education from colleges and universities in foreign countries must be evaluated in terms of equivalency to that acquired in U.S. colleges and universities. You must provide a copy of the letter containing the results of the equivalency evaluation upon request. Failure to provide such documentation when requested will result in lost consideration.
