Duties

Help

As a GS-0401 Biologist (Manufacturing), your duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Performing calculations based on laboratory results and retrieves test results for safety assays such as gram stain, endotoxin, and mycoplasma as needed for completion of the certificate of analysis for the final product.
  • Using problem-solving skills to resolve unexpected findings or events that occur during manufacturing processes or laboratory testing.
  • Identifying and communicates problems with sample testing that may affect results such as inadequate quantity, interfering substance, disease condition, limitation of tests, or test system to Team Leads and Supervisors.
  • Ensuring product identity is maintained throughout manufacturing until final product labeling and prepares all necessary product labels.
  • Assisting with performing comparison studies of new methods with existing or reference methods using linearity, accuracy, and precision statistics; cost and operational efficiency analysis.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for a Biologist (Manufacturing), GS-401 position you must meet the following Education Requirements:

A. Completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university; OR

B. A combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university,
AND appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.

In Addition to the above basic requirement, in order to qualify for a Biologist (Manufacturing), GS-0401 position at the GS-11 level you must have:

A. 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree that is directly related to the duties of this position; OR

B.
1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-09 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: manufacturing complex cell and gene therapies; analyzing and interpreting data from preclinical manufacturing experiments; writing and developing standard operating procedures (SOPS); assisting in the preparation of research papers by preparing information for the materials and methods and results sections; and using a variety of laboratory instruments/equipment and ensuring that this laboratory equipment is calibrated and in working order; OR

C. a combination of post baccalaureate education related to the position and experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position.
