Summary

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), located within the Office of Research Services (R). This position serves as a first line supervisor in the Moving Image and Sound Branch of the Special Media Records Division. The incumbent is responsible for assisting in the planning, directing, coordinating, and controlling all of the archival functions of the employees assigned to the Branch.

Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Archivist, you will:

  • Ensure and manage the active participation of the staff in archival assignments across a subgroup of functional areas such as processing, reference, accessioning, holdings management or digital access.
  • Assist in implementing the Moving Image and Sound Branch's program for preserving and providing access to federal records and donated materials.
  • Provide supervisory oversight and project management for the archival staff and collaborate with other supervisors throughout the Special Media Records Division.
  • With the Branch Chief, establish and monitor priorities and work plans for the unit.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

SPECIAILIZED EXPERIENCE: For the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Leading a team, program, or project; AND
  • Utilizing archival principles relating to holding security, reference, processing, digitization and/or accessioning; AND
  • Providing advice and guidance to internal and external stakeholders, relating to archival principles; AND
  • Managing multiple priorities, such as but not limited to; prioritizing and delegating work for others, effectively communicating changing project or program requirements, and/or resolving guidance on complex archival issues.

Education Requirements:


A. Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience - at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
