Summary

As a Supervisory Actuary at the GS-1510-15, you will be part of the Office of the Actuaries, Healthcare and Insurance within the Office of Personnel Management. If selected, you will be responsible for determining the basic content and character of the actuarial analysis of employee benefits programs which may include pension programs, health programs and/or other employee benefit programs.

Duties

Help
  • Managing the administrative work of the office, providing advice, counsel or instructions to individual employees on administrative matters.
  • Directs highly complex and technical actuarial research and analytical assignments and makes recommendations which serve as a basis for OPM policy regarding CSRS, FERS, FEGLI, FEHB, PSHBP and other benefits programs.
  • Independently devises new actuarial methods and procedures of a highly complex nature and prepares technical reports on the methods and findings of studies.
  • Coordinates the work of the Office with that of other units within OPM.

Qualifications

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: You must have:

(1) A bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites.

OR

(2) Combination of education and experience that includes both of the following requirements: Technical work experience in actuarial support work or in mathematics; and completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours of courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science at a four year college or university. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites; AND
(3) One year of actuarial experience.

For the GS15: You must have 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience which is equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the private or public sector) which demonstrates all of the following:

  • Actuarial analysis of employee benefits programs including pension programs, health programs, and/or other employee benefit programs;
  • Technical actuarial research and analytical assignments that include making recommendations;
  • Devising new actuarial methods and procedures and preparing technical reports on the methods and findings of studies; AND
  • Experience with actuarial valuations of the Retirement, Health, Life, or other benefits programs.
