Duties

Help

  • Plans and lays out work from blueprints, rough sketches, construction drawings, surveys, and work orders
  • Performs masonry tasks involved in the maintenance, repair, alteration, and construction of interior and exterior surfaces and structures
  • Maintains, repairs, and constructs cement and concrete surfaces
  • Independently applies skilled methods, techniques, and advanced shop mathematics to construct, install, repair, and modify a wide variety of structures
  • Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean work environment
  • Uses and maintains tools and equipment

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C WG-3600 Structural and Finishing Work Family located here.

IDEAL CANDIDATE: Our ideal candidate is someone with integrity who take pride in their work, also is a TEAM player, works great with other members! Is Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications. Adherence to all facility work rules and housekeeping/cleanliness. Demonstrates safe working practices and procedures. Adaptation of job site environment. Prepares and uses necessary equipment and materials to perform work of a construction nature. Uses supplied construction prints to identify, layout, and complete masonry tasks as required to construct refractory structures Installation of refractory brick and associated ceramic components. Understand processes for measuring and mixing refractory ingredients for a wide variety of mortars and other bonding agents. Monitor mix of mortars to ensure correct ingredients, consistency, and texture. Operate equipment required for cutting, drilling, grooving, grinding, and sizing refractory brick. Possess working knowledge of cutting, drilling and grinding media used on equipment. Understand the function and operation of hand tools required such as drills, saws, levels, trowels, grinders, and measurement devices. Operate ingredient mixers of all sizes to properly mix mortars Have knowledge of ladders, scaffolding and associated equipment to establish safe work platforms. Cleaning, grouting, pointing and other work necessary to achieve desired construction results on. Masonry projects Installation of insulating materials used within the masonry field such as fiber frax and duraboard type items. Execute demolition of existing refractory structures and proper disposal of old materials Interface with computers and computer-controlled equipment as needed. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment. Good physical stamina and strength to stand, bend, lift, and carry heavy and bulky products and equipment. Excellent time management and organizational skills to prioritize tasks and meet project deadlines. Knowledge of safety procedures and guidelines for working with sheet metal, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

The screen out element for this position is the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision.

Additional Information: A High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred. Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training program in Cement Masonry is desired. A valid Florida driver's license will be required. Four years' experience as a Mason Journeyman or an equivalent combination of education and experience is desirable but not always required. An understanding of construction principles, safety protocols, and building codes is advantageous. Physical fitness and ability to perform strenuous tasks without restrictions (lifting 50 lbs. unassisted frequently). Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality are essential qualities for this role. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, project plans, and specifications is beneficial.

PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
