Summary

This position is located in the Office of the Committee on Admissions of the Court of Appeals (COA). The Paralegal Specialist analyzes and reviews character and fitness reports, corresponds with applicants and third parties, conducts research, and creates reports in connection with attorney admissions and licensing. The incumbent is also responsible for preparing statical reports on the bar exam and other admissions processes.

Duties

Help

Major Duties:

  • Gathers and prepares statistical data regarding the bar exam and other admissions processes for review by the Director, Deputy Clerk of the Clerk of the Court, law schools, American Bar Association, and the National Conference of Bar Examiners. 
  • Assists in the design and development of Proctor materials for the bar exam. 
  • Provides assistance to internal and external stakeholders through phone and email. 
  • Conducts second-level reviews of applications for admission to the bar and conducts necessary follow-up on applications with character and fitness concerns. 
  • Monitors and tracks requests for Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accommodations on the bar exam, coordinates review by experts, and follows requests through final approval. Manages granted accommodations through the completion of the bar exam.
  • Provides administrative and technical support to the COA Director. 
  • Performs legal research and other duties for the division as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree plus one (1) year of administrative, clerical, or paralegal experience in a court or law agency. 

Knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act. 

Please note that authorization for the release of your adult criminal record revealing any convictions and forfeitures, and any criminal cases currently pending before the courts is required.  If you are selected for the position, a criminal history records check will be conducted.
