Duties

Help
  • Perform Installation Access Control as armed security guard for pedestrians and vehicles accessing Fort Carson.
  • Regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic to prevent accidents and to ease congestion.
  • Performs Visitor Control Center duties. Incumbent is responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard.
  • Serve as a member of the installation's overall security response capability during actual or simulated incidents.
  • Inspects containers, personal property, documents on private, commercial and governmental vehicles, exercises tact, courtesy, and firmness in the performance of all force protection duties.
  • Assists Department of the Army Civilian and Military police as required by rerouting traffic, obtaining facts, taking statements, etc.
  • Processes a variety of National Crime Information Center queries and provides timely response as appropriate or required.
  • Verifies personnel credentials, prints visitor passes and/or badges, creates and edits cardholder records and runs card and/or pass access reports.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain eligibility at the Secret level using a Tier 3 background investigation and must be able to obtain and sustain state certification for operating the NCIC terminals.
  • Incumbent must meet the requirements of the Individual Reliability Program IAW AR 190-56.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • IAW AR 600-85, a DA Form 5019R Condition of Employment must be assigned for mandatory drug testing. Drug testing designated position. Individual agrees to submit to a urinalysis on a recurring basis.
  • Shift work is required, or a change in work shift may be necessary.
  • Incumbent must be proficient in the use of assigned firearms/weapons, pass an initial qualification, and must qualify semi-annually thereafter in the use of assigned firearms/weapons.
  • Incumbent must undergo and pass annual medical exams of physical, emotional and mental stability.
  • Incumbent must successfully complete security guard training.
  • Employee must be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment, and may be required to be certified in the use of aerosol irritants and baton.
  • Incumbent will be required to maintain physical conditioning and pass an annual physical agility test (PAT).
  • Incumbent must be fully qualified to operate a government vehicle. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must wear the Department of the Army Security Guard (DASG) uniform.
  • Employee must obtain and maintain applicable certifications in operating various electronic equipment and sensors.
  • Must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • Employee must be able to perform as a member of the installation’s overall security response capability.
  • LAUTENBERG AMENDMENT: Must meet the requirements under the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized work experience with the Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization that involved: 1) The protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; 2) Maintaining order and protecting life 3) Controlling access of vehicles, visitors and/or pedestrians into a facility or area. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
