Duties

Help
  • Planning, coordinating, and overseeing the delivery of the full range of efficient, reliable, and economical hosting services for UNIX and Windows-based applications in a large-scale production-quality operating environment.
  • Act as the approval authority for personnel actions and organizational functions.
  • Evaluate the work of subordinates, plan and assign work to be accomplished, set and adjust priorities, and give advice, counsel, or instructions to subordinates on both work and administrative matters.
  • Participate in CIT and NIH security and technology planning initiatives with emphasis on 'Cloud' and 'Hybrid Cloud' architecture and solutions.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to the Branch Chief and other management officials in planning, developing, implementing, managing, and supporting hosting services, especially in the hosting of Unix and Windows-based systems.
  • Review system usage and hardware and software performance and analyze long-term trends in each area.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Supervisory IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) GS-2210-14 position, you must have IT-related experience as described below. The experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate IT-related experience must demonstrate each of the four competencies listed below:

  • Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that you work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
  • Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
  • Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

AND to qualify at the GS-14 level:

  • In order to qualify for a Supervisory IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) position at the GS-14 level, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector typically gained in the IT field or through performing IT related tasks such as: developing and delivering hosting, database, and storage services for a biomedical research organization; managing hosting, database, and storage planning, management, and administrative functions; providing technical advice and leadership for the implementation and management of hosting, database, and storage services; and providing supervision or direction to other staff and contractors in providing hosting, database, and storage services.
You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.

  • At the supervisor's discretion, this position may offer work schedule flexibilities:
