Duties

Help

As a Air Conditioning Equipment Mechanic Leader, you must have:

  • Journeyman level knowledge of advanced principles and theories of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating and ventilation, heat transfer laws, refrigerant tables, air flow calculations, and pressure temperature characteristics for different systems
  • Knowledge of installing valves, heating and cooling dampers, motors in complex integrated systems using industry standard practices including brazing
  • Ability to repair and troubleshoot a variety of compressors (i.e., gear, reciprocating, centrifugal, screw, rotary pump), and refrigerant and heating controls (i.e., low- and high-pressure side- floats, automatic thermostatic expansion valves, capillary)
  • Knowledge and use of the Building Automation Systems (BAS), and computer skills using basic software to manage multiple complex projects and track work hours on spreadsheets for ACEM apprentices
  • Knowledge of industry standard calibration equipment used to identify, repair, modify, and calibrate complex commercial and industrial systems for manufacturing and support operations.

  • Shift Work: This facility operates on a 24 hour per day, three-shift basis. Assignment to a specific shift cannot be guaranteed. The successful applicant must be able to work all shifts on a rotational basis.
  • May be required to wear safety clothing and/or equipment required by the position. This may include safety shoes, hard hats, hearing protection, gloves, masks, etc.

  • This position requires that the successful candidate undergo personnel vetting, which includes a background investigation and enrollment upon onboarding into "Continuous Vetting." PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Performs work on ladders, platforms, and hard-to-reach places. Stands, stoops, reaches, kneels, climbs, and works in awkward positions when performing the work. Lifts tools and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds and frequently lifts in excess of 40 pounds.

This position works with electrical color-coded wires and must have the ability to distinguish them correctly to perform electrical connections safely.

The tests for electrical workers include the Ishihara color-plate test and the Farnsworth test. A score of 10 out of 11 on the Ishihara color-plate test is normal color vision, and no further testing is needed. Workers that fail the Ishihara test will be tested using the Farnsworth test. Failing both tests indicate a color vision deficiency, which must be corrected in order to safely perform electrical wiring. Visual Acuity Requirements for PIT Operators; Correctable to 20/40 vision both eyes with normal peripheral vision.
