Summary

As Branch Chief for the Data Science and Artificial Intelligence Application Branch (DSAIAB) you will oversee a data platform processing over 350 million data points daily, aiding DTR in decision-making through advanced calculations, machine learning, and complex numerical models, e.g., artificial neural networks, gradient-boosted models, Bayesian optimization. Duties

Help

As a Supervisory Data Scientist in DTR, you will:

  • Integrate data science, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and machine learning with a focus on developing forecasting models and optimization strategies to enhance operational efficiency and reliability.
  • Improve monitoring and data quality processes, customizing data collection to support sophisticated analytics and decision-making, with a special focus on forecasting and optimization models.
  • Apply data analytics, aiming to secure high-quality data for performance improvements. Emphasize cost reduction and increased efficiency and reliability through advanced predictive analytics and optimization techniques.
  • Transform unstructured data into actionable insights enabling DTR stakeholders to make informed decisions, utilizing forecasting models for strategic planning and achieving operational excellence.
  • With an engineering-oriented approach, create and maintain a data quality dashboard that integrates metrics and scorecards for continuous anomaly detection and performance evaluation.
  • Ensure data integrity and enforce stringent security measures to protect information assets, underlining the importance of a comprehensive engineering and mathematical foundation in managing and safeguarding data.

Qualifications

Basic Qualification Requirements:
To qualify for a Supervisory Data Scientist, GS-1560-14 position, you must
A. Possess a bachelor's degree, or graduate/higher level degree with a major study in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or a field that is directly related to the position; OR,
B. Possess a combination of education (at least 30 semester hours) and additional appropriate/related experience that is the equivalent to a major in mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or a field directly related to the position.

All education, unless completed outside of the U.S., must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the education was completed.

Additional Qualification Requirements:
In addition, in order to qualify for this position at the GS-14 level, you must demonstrate in your resume at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks: performing data collection, preprocessing, and analysis activities by implementing programming language codes (e.g., R, Python), feature engineering, advanced statistical methods/techniques (e.g., FPCA, Bayesian Analysis, NARX, Monte Carlo) and machine learning/AI tools; designing and evaluating machine learning/AI tools (e.g., RNN, LTSM) to extract insights from unstructured and multidimensional data; providing data science summaries and visualizations to management officials and program staff for facilities or utilities performance and operations; coordinating and advising on data science programs and projects with organizational officials, program staff, or other organizations to enhance facilities or utilities performance; and providing direction and guidance to program staff on data science techniques and methodologies.
