Duties

  • Secure weapons or contraband until it can be released to the Installation Provost Marshal Office or appropriate civilian law enforcement agency.
  • Monitor access into restricted areas (e.g., pharmacy, warehouses, etc.) and intrusion detection system alarms using both manual and electronic methods (i.e., Electronic Access Control Systems (EACS)/Intrusion Detection System (IDS)).
  • Conduct initial inquiries for both administrative and potential criminal complaints and reports findings to the Chief of Hospital Security.
  • Provide assistance to general visitors regarding security procedures.
  • Employ de-escalation techniques to control incidents or confrontations.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • This position has been designated “Mission Essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions.
  • This position requires incumbent to be trained and maintain current required certifications in CPR techniques and must know first aid.
  • The incumbent is required to maintain a high standard of conduct; and will be assessed under the Individual Reliability Program to show they can work effectively under pressure or emergency conditions with a positive attitude toward his/her duties.
  • This position may require incumbent to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other protective equipment and a uniform. Incumbent must not have any medical condition that precludes the wearing of a chemical protective mask and over garments.
  • This position has the following medical requirements; good near and distant vision, ability to distinguish basic colors, and ability to hear the conversational voice. This position also requires the incumbent to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • This position is subject to the Lautenberg amendment to the gun control act of 1968 which makes it a felony for anyone who has been convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence to ship, transport, possess, or receive firearms or ammunition.
  • This position requires the incumbent to undergo and pass an annual medical exam of physical, emotional, and mental stability.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has been designated Weather Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on any day or shift, including PMs, nights, weekends, holidays, or on an "on call" basis, necessary to meet mission requirements. Incumbent will be required to regularly work 9 hour shifts.
  • This position requires the incumbent not have any criminal convictions, pass a character investigation, and possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Criminal convictions and/or loss of license may result in removal from the position.
  • This position is under the Federal Motor Operations medical requirement specified in 5 Code of Federal Regulations Section 930 Part 109; persons operating a Government owned or leased vehicle are subject to medical testing once every 4 years.
  • You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes detecting and preventing theft, damage, and/or trespassing to an organization or assigned area; checking documents for individuals seeking entrance to restricted areas prior to granting entry; and coordinating with a Federal, State, municipal, local, or private protective organization to protect property against hazards such as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-5).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
