Duties

Help

As a SUPERVISORY SECURITY SPECIALIST you will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Develops and implements security procedures and guidelines for the regional security managers and serves as an adviser.
  • Provides guidance, advice, and responds to a variety of issues and complex problems related to personnel security.
  • Applies knowledge of operations security to implement policies and procedures.
  • Develop plans, schedules, timelines, and tracking mechanisms to evaluate progress, risks, and opportunities in a largely dispersed workforce.
  • Provides guidance, advice, and responds to a variety of issues and complex problems related to industrial security.
  • Provides guidance, advice, and responds to a variety of issues and complex problems related to information security.
  • Works closely with security personnel to ensure that security training and program management meet all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide day to day supervision and tasking to regional security managers and ensure appropriate coverage and response to issues and concerns within their regional responsibilities.

Applicant must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of the knowledge, skills, abilities and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position.

You must have specialized experience sufficient to demonstrate that you have acquired all the competencies necessary to perform at a level equivalent in difficulty, responsibility, and complexity to the next lower grade GS/GG-13 in the Federal service and are prepared to take on greater responsibility.
Generally, this would include one year or more of such specialized experience. Specialized experience for this position includes: Applying a wide range of security, technical and functional area knowledge to threat-unique mission security problems not covered by application of standard guidance or practices; Providing multi-functional security advice and support for the specialized areas of emphasis to include personnel, operations, industrial, and information security.

  1. Information Security- Apply knowledge of policies, procedures, and requirements established under appropriate authorities to protect information that, if subjected to unauthorized disclosure could reasonably be expected to cause damage to national security.
  1. Personnel Security-Apply personnel security principles and methods to process initial investigations, clearances, periodic re-investigations, and clearance upgrades/downgrades, suspension, revocations,
  1. Security Education and Awareness-Develops, administers, and maintains curricula and materials on the full range of security principles and practices. Conducts and tracks security and counterintelligence awareness briefings and debriefings.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
