About the Position: This position is a Fabric Worker (Tailoring) with the 406th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center at Fort Jackson, SC.

This is a Temp NTE 8 Months Position. It is time-limited and may be extended up to a maximum of three years. This position CANNOT be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition.

Duties

Help
  • Conducting inspections related to clothing/footwear.
  • Operating Machines stitching, sewing machines and cutting machines.
  • Restocking by moving boxes and pallets of clothing/footwear from trucks to warehouse.
  • Making alternations to lined and unlined military uniforms.
  • Mending and repairing obvious defects to garments as necessary.

  • Must be able to work flexible tours of duty to include alternating shifts/irregular hours, weekends, night shift or day shifts.
  • Must be able to consistently lift 40-70 pounds independently. Occasionally may be required to lift up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Fabric Worker (Tailoring)~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform normal shortening/lengthening sleeves/hems, blind stich hems on trousers and slacks. I can alter the waist/hip measurements of trousers/slacks/skirts and inspecting for proper fit. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Fitting duties require frequently lifting items weighing 40-70 pounds independently and occasionally lifts up to 100 pound with assistance. Work involves continuous standing and walking on concrete floors, bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching above heads. Sewing duties require sitting for long periods of time with continual movement of hands, arms and fingers placing items in position for sewing operations.
  • Working Conditions: Works in moderately heated, lighted and ventilated building, however, it is subject to heat from the adjacent pressing area. Is subject to cuts abrasions, bruises or strains from handling boxes and bundles of clothing. There is some danger of minor hand injuries such as injuries to fingers from needles and to serious hand cuts when operating the pants cutting machine. Frequently exposed to unpleasant body odors Work surroundings are noisy and crowded from the number of soldiers processing.
