The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) at Los Angeles Air Force Base is searching for a Chief, Plans and Programs Branch (NH-2210-03).

Description:
The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) 61st Communications Squadron is seeking a full-time Supervisory IT Specialist, Plans and Programs Branch Chief to work in the at Los Angeles Air Force Base in El Segundo, CA. As a key leader in our dynamic environment, you'll provide strategic and technical management guidance, driving the evolution of Information Technology (IT) Systems and spearheading IT Project Management initiatives. Your expertise will be instrumental in delivering cost-effective solutions to enhance and modernize administrative processes, supporting the mission of the Space Systems Command (SSC). The role involves exercising supervisory personnel management responsibilities for at least 25% of the time. This includes planning the work to be carried out by subordinates, setting and adjusting short and long-term priorities, and preparing schedules for completing tasks. Additionally, the position entails defining, establishing, and overseeing the activities of the Plans and Programs Branch, serving as an expert within this functional area, and representing the branch in various installation and functional area organizations. Building effective working relationships with all levels of management, including Group/Squadron Commanders/Directors and Deputies at Los Angeles Air Force Base, as well as other DAF/USSF centers and HQ USSF, is crucial. Staying updated on state-of-the-art techniques in relevant disciplines is essential. The role also involves providing strategic plans and recommendations tailored to new situations to address cross-functional issues related to the acquisition and installation of major systems to meet HQ USSF-directed, approved, and validated requirements.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience gathering, managing, and overseeing a broad range of highly complex projects from a technical requirements and budgetary perspective highly desired. Demonstrated skill in leading productive teams and work centers. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions of a unit and lead, mentor, motivate, and appraise subordinate staff. Demonstrated leadership experience planning, organizing, and directing functions and mentoring, motivating, and appraising the staff of an organization through subordinate supervisor highly desired. Knowledge of methods of leadership and supervision to hold others accountable for measurable high-quality, timely, and cost-effective results. Ability to determine objectives, make sound, well-informed, and objective decisions, set priorities, cause change, and accomplish organizational goals.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. In depth experience that demonstrates management/leadership experience such as applying management techniques, methods, theories, principles, or labor relations concepts for the accomplishment of all program objectives with combined technical and administrative oversight.
2. Knowledge of a wide range of Information Technology (IT) systems, architecture, and commercial lease circuits.
3. Ability to identify requirements for additional resources including personnel, overtime, equipment, supplies, and space to ensure success in meeting goals and objectives.
4. Knowledge of the latest advancements in technology to initiate corrective or preventative action to ensure optimum performance of the system.
5. Knowledge of the principles, methods, and practices for integrating information system components sufficient to plan, coordinate, and administer computer systems, and optimize system performance.
6. Ability to communicate techniques to interact with internal and external customers effectively and diplomatically.
7. Skill in the ability to support multiple Major Defense Acquisition programs for total life cycle and configuration management support of hardware, software, and documenting, adhering to, enforcing, improving and communicating Configuration Management processes for software, hardware and systems.
8. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
9. Knowledge of a wide range of IT processes, concepts, principles, methods, policies, practices, and life cycle management.

  • This position is on-site and eligible for telework, 2-4 days per pay period.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • May be required to travel by military or commercial aircraft in the performance of TDY assignments.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • PCS and relocation funding are available.
