Duties

Help
  • Acts as a Physical Security Specialist responsible for physical security plans, procedures, and inspections as well as key control.
  • Assists in the design of a comprehensive physical security program involving adaptation of normally accepted security principles and practices.
  • Coordinates and administers security training awareness, crime prevention, Anti-Terrorism, Force Protection, and local threat conditions to ensure personnel are aware of security matters and procedures.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent obtain the core Security Professional Education Development (SPeD) Certification within their first two years of employment as mandated by AR 190-13.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to pre-employment drug testing and random drug testing.
  • The incumbent will be subject to a preemployment physical at time of onboarding.
  • Heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs may be required.
  • Position is required to obtain and maintain a valid state and government driver's license.
  • Incumbent may be required to wear chemical related Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for extended periods of time.
  • Occasional travel away from the duty station (TDY) may be required.
  • This position requires a Secret security clearance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. GS-09
Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience which includes: Providing administrative support of security disciplines that include physical security plans and policies of an installation; Assisting with conducting annual physical security surveys; Assessing the adequacy of an installation's existing physical security measures; and advising and/or training personnel on security awareness compliance requirements. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Homeland Security, Industrial Security or Security Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Formulating physical security policies for enforcement, Completing minor trouble shooting of automated installation access control systems, Updating standard operating procedures and physical security plans for approval and implementation, and Resolving issues involving security plans to ensure established standards are met. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Homeland Security, Industrial Security or Security Management.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

  • This is a developmental position and may be filled at any grade level. This position provides non-competitive promotion potential to the full performance grade of GS-11 if all requirements are met.
  • Position may be filled as a Term Appointment NTE 13 Months. Term appointments may be extended beyond six (6) years, up to eight (8) years. With DoD approval, Term appointments may be extended beyond eight (8) years.
  • Current permanent Federal employees (to include permanent Army employees) applying for a Direct Hire Authority Term appointment will be appointed/converted into a Term appointment with no statutory return rights back to a permanent position.
