This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Dod Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Help
  • Otolaryngology technician perform entry level triage of patients within a clinic environment, screening exams independently and efficiently, in an often fast-paced environment.
  • Direct the flow of patients; obtain medical and personal data and accurately transcribe into the patient medical record (hard copy and/or electronic) according to established techniques and procedures.
  • Ensure medical records are prepared and available.
  • Complete other assigned office administrative work in support of clinical care. Ensures proper computer entry of patient data and equipment settings.
  • Instill basic medication administration via atomizer per surgeons’ orders/standard operating procedures.
  • Assist with the preparation of the full spectrum of complex, intricate examinations appropriate for the clinical setting, which vary depending on the status.

  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 45 lbs.
  • This position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/ or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience:
One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1.) Triage of patients within a clinic environment, screening exams independently and efficiently, in an often fast-paced environment; 2) Ensuring medical records are prepared and available, directing the flow of patients; 3) Obtaining medical and personal data and accurately transcribe into the patient medical, recording (hard copy and/or electronic) according to established techniques and procedures; 4) Completing other assigned office administrative work in support of clinical care.

Education:
On full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the position, such as, Healthcare, Patient Care.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.
