Duties

Help
  • You will create illustrative material to be reproduced, using freehand, computer graphics programs, lettering guides, and computer typesetting equipment.
  • You will translate and execute a diverse range of complex ideas, concepts, principles, or issues into a unified, effective visual interpretation.
  • You will consult with a customer to research the subject, audience, and information objectives to develop the most appropriate visual approach.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Planning, designing, developing, and executing various visual information projects (i.e. exhibits, graphics, displays, posters, banners, panel signs, maps, charts, and photo templates in support of conferences, workshops, and major events); 2) Demonstrating extensive range of artistic skill and design ability in execution of various displays and creation of informational products; and 3) Utilizing large format printers and digital color press printers and experience with mounting, laminating, cutting, matting and framing. Experience MUST be in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.

GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Selecting visual materials (i.e. photographs, illustrations, and typography) to be used in the development of communication of materials; 2) Using computer graphics systems (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, and other industry standard graphic programs) to create hard copy and electronic products; 3) Developing visual aids that translate thoughts and ideas into communication materials (i.e., printed publications, exhibit, or oral presentations); and 4) Freehand drawing using various mediums to design to be used for book covers, brochures, CD/DVDs, and/or labels. Experience MUST be in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes planning the preparation and use of photographs, illustrations, drawings, and other art work, charts, diagrams, dioramas, maps, slides, overlays, and other kinds of visual material for use in communicating information through visual means.

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

GS-11:
Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree that included a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position being filled.

Successfully completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree that included a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position being filled.
or
LL.M., if related to the position being filled

GS-09:
Successfully completed a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree that included a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position being filled.

Successfully completed 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree hat included a major study in commercial art, fine arts, art history, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, photography, visual communication, or other fields related to the position being filled.
