About the position: This position will be assigned to the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Base, New York.

The position is a flexible position, which means you are not guaranteed hours or benefits but could work anywhere between 0 and 40 hours per week. Flex employees will be eligible for the use of the fitness center, lodging, and other activities. Position requires working irregular schedules, to include weekends, holidays, and all shifts.

Duties

Help

  • Properly uses, cleans, and accounts for tools required to accomplish assigned duties.
  • Consistently operates hand tools and small equipment in a safe manner, applying established safety regulations to minimize and avoid violations due to employee error or negligence.
  • Strictly follows safety and security instructions.
  • Promptly informs supervisor of accidents and/or damages to supplies, equipment, or vehicles and of any observed unsafe practices and/or procedures in a timely manner according to established policies and procedures.
  • Consistently cleans tools and work environment after performing maintenance.
  • Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing.
  • Ensures supplies and equipment are maintained in operable condition at all times.
  • Must adhere to all fire, safety, sanitation, and security standards.
  • Must receive at least a satisfactory rating on all external and internal inspections on work performed.
  • Carries out oral and written instruction in an acceptable manner.
  • Performs assigned duties within established time limits or suspense dates in an efficient manner contributing to the satisfactory accomplishment of the organization's functions.
  • Maintains effective working relationships.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Must be able to use a variety of hand tools associated with carpentry, painting, and plumbing. Knowledge of standard surface preparation and coating methods and techniques. Able to carry out oral and written instructions. Must have experience in the minor repair of furniture, woodwork refinishing, electrical repair and plumbing. Must have the ability to do more than one task at a time and use judgment in sequencing tasks. Must be physically able to occasionally lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, bend, stoop, and reach for long periods of time.

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
