Duties

Help
  • Installs, maintains and repairs electrical wiring systems, relay switches, distribution panels, outlet boxes, street lights, ball field lighting, as well as a wide variety of electrical fixtures, tools, and appliances.
  • Repair low voltage (e.g., 110/220/440 volt, 120/240/480 volt) electrical equipment on alternating currents in support of the organization.
  • Following maintenance schedules and inspections or work orders, performs maintenance services, diagnoses system or equipment malfunction, and repairs as necessary to include controls.
  • Tests circuits and equipment by use of voltmeter, ammeter, watt meter ohmmeter, analyzer, or other specialized electric diagnostic devices.

  • Must possess and maintain a state Driver’s License.
  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a CLASS “B” CDL operator license for a variety of wheeled vehicles of all classes.
  • Inclement weather essential position.
  • This position is subject to random drug testing.
  • Subject to call back after normal duty hours to restore power or services and scheduled overtime.
  • Pre-appointment physical is required and annual physical thereafter.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an ELECTRICIAN (MVO) without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common tasks associated with repairing, overhauling, maintaining, servicing and installing 120/240 volt-single phase, 120/208-240 volt-three phases, electrical, fire alarm systems, steam and hot water equipment of industrial, commercial and domestic type. I can do testing, installing, modifying, troubleshooting , replacing of new and existing electrical systems; maintaining and repairing industrial electronic controls and equipment; measuring, cutting, threading, bending, assembling and installing conducting, inserting, splicing and connecting wires to fixtures outlets, switches, receptacles and power sources. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Work requires the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in uncomfortable positions. The incumbent frequently lifts, carries, and sets up tools, equipment, and parts that weigh up to 20 pounds. Occasionally handles objects weighing over 50 pounds.

Working Conditions: Works in and outside: buildings, shops, aerial lighting, under buildings and in close quarters. Subject to contact with dirt, dust, and grease; shocks and burns from high voltage; cuts and bruises. Subject to emergency call back seven days a week, 24 hours a day.
