Duties

Help
  • Perform examinations, diagnostic procedures and treats of prescribes courses of treatment for patients suffering from diseases, injuries, or disorders of the foot and ankle.
  • Perform complex surgeries that involve the midfoot, the ankle, requires lengthy surgical time, and various surgical instrumentation, both internal and external fixation devices and/or bone grafting.
  • Provide hands-on instructions and lectures to Physician Assistants, Podiatry Students, Family Practice, Orthopedic and Podiatry Residents who rotate through the Podiatry Clinic.
  • Exercise privileges to write and prescribe appropriate medications including analgesics and narcotics, rehabilitative exercises, footwear, orthoses, and prostheses.
  • Serve as Director of Podiatric Medical Education, responsible for the day-to-day administration of the Podiatric Residency at Womack Army Medical Center.
  • Provide non-operative and operative podiatric care involving forefoot evaluation and surgery.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Must obtain and maintain a favorable result from a criminal history background check as a condition of employment.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
  • Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Basic Requirements:

Degree
:Successful completion of at least a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) from a school of podiatric medicine accredited by the American Podiatric Medical Association's Council on Podiatric Medical Evaluation (APMA) at the time the degree was obtained. You MUST attach a copy of your transcript(s).

AND

Licensure: Successful completion of the National Board of Pediatric Medical Examiners (NBPME) or the American Podiatric Medical Licensing Examination (APLME) and a current, active and unrestricted license to practice podiatric medicine from a U.S. State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. This position requires a job-related license or certification. You MUST submit a copy of your license or certification with your application package or you will be rated ineligible.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:

Podiatry Experience: In addition to the Basic Requirements, applicants must complete one full year of professional podiatry experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13).

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) diagnosing and treating foot and ankle disorders; and 2) performing various surgeries on the foot and ankle; and 3) providing oversight, teaching or training in the field of Podiatry. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Education

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
