About the Position: This position is located at Fort Gregg-Adams within the Army Health Clinic, DIR of Clinical Support, Department of Preventative Medicine, Public Health Nursing Services.
Serve as a technical consultant to management on industrial hygiene evaluations of the work environment.
Review and evaluate plans for new construction, alteration of facilities or for new processes including new materials that are of a hazardous or toxic, nature.
Advise management on industrial hygiene issues, recommend actions to prevent or minimize health hazards, provide industrial hygiene input to risk management decision processes.
Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states
or possessions to operate vehicles
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the
continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
Employees assigned to a medical treatment facility are required to be screened for applicable immunizations or pre-existing immunity based
on occupational risk, regardless of job series.
This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer such as masks, safety shoes, coveralls,
hardhats, gloves etc.
This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 20% of the time.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 40 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations
the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion
and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement: Degree: Bachelor's or graduate (or higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
OR
Related Degree: Bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. For engineering degrees to be acceptable, the curriculum must be in a school of engineering with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) as a professional engineering curriculum.

Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH).
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting evaluations of work operations to assess potentially hazardous environmental conditions; perform inspections of work sites to ensure compliance with safety plans and occupational health regulations; recommend controls and corrective actions of industrial hygiene problems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-11.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
