Summary

This position is located in the Architect of the Capitol (AOC), Director Utilities and Power Plant Operations, Mechanical Maintenance Branch. The Capitol Power Plant (CPP) is seeking an experienced Maintenance Mechanic to perform Boiler Plant, Chiller Plant, and Air Conditioning repairs. Experience should also include preventative maintenance and repair of pumps, steam turbines and auxiliary equipment located throughout the CPP.

Duties

Help

Inspects, troubleshoots and performs the installation, modifications and repairs of high pressure piping systems for industrial steam and refrigeration plant equipment such as condensers, plate heat exchangers, chilled / condenser water pumps, air compressors, high pressure steam and temperature systems, water lines and fittings, steam generating plant equipment, chiller plant equipment, various types of plumbing and heating / cooling style equipment. 

Assists in the fabrication of both high and low pressure pipe fittings within CPP. Assists in the construction and installation of any required hangers, brackets, risers, expansion joints, unions, pumps, tubing, valves and any other supporting fixtures. 

Cuts, bends, threads and assembles pipe fittings using both electric and manual pipe threading machines. Installs a variety of pressure tight fittings including threaded, flanged, compression, bolted and welded joints. 

Maintains the ability to properly utilize all the tools of the trade including hand tools, electric, pneumatic and hydraulically powered tools and rigging equipment. Maintains and inspects all tools prior to use. Returns damaged or unserviceable tools to the shop supervisor for repairs or replacement. 

Performs the duties of preventative maintenance, repair, inspection and replacement of steam lines, steam traps, valves, gaskets, boiler refractory, and industrial equipment. Perform any necessary mechanical fitting techniques under the direction of the Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor or designee.

Perform basic maintenance on bobcats, forklifts, and all other plant vehicles as assigned.

Cleans, drains, dismantles, repairs and reassembles refrigeration and boiler plant equipment. Performs preventative and scheduled maintenance throughout the boiler and refrigeration plants.

Changes lubricating oil and bearings, performs the duties of alignment of shafts / couplings and installation of mechanical seals, adjusts machinery tolerances and maintains gear boxes to meet manufacturer specifications. 

Performs Lock Out/Tag Out” system duties as assigned.

Understands, observes, enforces and practices all safety rules and regulations of the trade, plant and agency policies. Abides by the plant safety “Lock Out/Tag Out” system.
