Duties

Help
  • You will serve as Electronics Technician in the Precise Time Department, U.S. Naval Observatory, Washington, D.C.
  • You will install electronic circuits and cables, move equipment, and clocks.
  • You will perform routine satellite operations, special link calibrations, and equipment testing.
  • You will be responsible for maintenance of electronics associated with atomic frequency standards, including cesium and masers.
  • You will monitor electronically clock performance including health and status readouts.
  • You will perform maintenance on electronics associated with atomic frequency standards.
  • You will recognize the need for improvements to Master Clock and time transfer electronic systems, subsystems, components, connections, and their associated electrical powers systems
  • You will be responsible for chamber maintenance and for contract supervision of Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) and generator system maintenance.
  • You will be responsible for perform routine satellite operation, specials time calibrations, equipment testing, satellite dish installation troubleshooting and maintenance.
  • You will create documentation, write internal reports and conduct and document special technical investigations or studies that include complex dependencies of the relevant Master Clock and time transfer systems and subsystems.

Qualifications

GS-11: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-10 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience in troubleshooting electrical and electronic systems
  • Experience performing credit card purchases and maintaining purchasing documents
  • Experience using a variety of guidelines, manuals, and standard reference materials
  • Experience exercising independent judgment and skill to interpret and analyze considerable amounts of data plan work
  • Experience recognizing the need for improvements to Master Clock and time transfer electronic systems, subsystems, components, connections, and their associated electrical power systems and the interdependence between several systems.
  • Experience installing electronic circuits and cables, moving equipment and clocks, general maintenance and similar work.
  • Experience writing formal reports and publications on procedures developed.
  • Experience performing maintenance on complex electrical and mechanical systems, which may require climbing to heights using ladders, cranes, and safety harnesses.
  • Experience troubleshooting electrical and electronics systems.
  • Experience communicating scientific and technical material in both verbal and written formats to a wide range of audiences from technical experts and peers to government or international experts.
  • Experience willingness to learn and adapt to work in a complex technical environment.
  • Experience performing credit card purchases and maintain purchasing documents.
  • Experience using a variety of guidelines, manuals, and standard reference materials that are not completely applicable to the work or have gaps in specificity requiring the incumbent to use judgment and initiative to interpret and adapt them to specific cases and problems.
  • Experience exercising independent judgment and skill to interpret and analyze considerable amounts of data plan the work, and refine methods and techniques.
  • Experience applying considerable number of different basic but established methods, procedures, and techniques that affect the operation of systems and equipment and the timeliness and economy of operations, service, and equipment.

GS-09: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
  • Experience using electrical concepts, theories, principles and practices
  • Experience troubleshooting complex systems in the areas of satellite communications systems, Master Clock measurement, and control and dissemination systems
  • Experience with maintenance of complex electrical and mechanical systems
  • Experience recognizing the need for improvements to Master Clock and time transfer electronic systems, subsystems, components, connections, and their associated electrical power systems and the interdependence between several systems.
  • Experience installing electronic circuits and cables, moving equipment and clocks, general maintenance and similar work.
  • Experience writing formal reports and publications on procedures developed.
  • Experience performing maintenance on complex electrical and mechanical systems, which may require climbing to heights using ladders, cranes, and safety harnesses.
