Duties

Help

The Engineering Technician serves as the primary source for computer-aided design (CAD) for the Lower Colorado Dams Office, Davis Dam Division, and is responsible for reviewing designs for compliance with current industry practices and ensures designs fit field conditions.

  • Develops, prepares, and/or reviews plans, specifications, and cost estimates for construction and/or proposed/ongoing projects.
  • Reviews designs for compliance with current industry practices and ensures designs fit field conditions; suggests modifications when issues are identified.
  • Utilizes automated engineering drafting and design systems and applications.
  • Uses a variety of contracting processes to provide engineering oversight for construction, architecture, or engineering contracts.
  • Validates data used for and loaded into electronic/automated design and records management applications. Provides technical oversight in ensuring data integrity.

A physical exam may not be required if a comparable agency approved examination was performed within the last 12 months. The cost of the exam will be reimbursed by the agency.

Qualifications

To be rated as qualified for this position, the HR Office must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - this information must be clearly supported in the resume, HR will not make assumptions.

To qualify at the GS-11, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level in federal service performing the following: 1) Utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D or equivalent software to develop engineering drawings 2) Reviewing statements of work, construction schedules, and contractor payment requests; 3) Conducting pre-award activities to ensure contractor work meets requirements and standards; AND 4) preparing change orders, modifications, or technical review of claims, and preparing cost estimates.

A firm understanding and ability to utilize AutoCAD or similar software is strongly desired for this position.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Selective Placement Factor: This position requires a current, valid State Issued Driver License. Failure to provide proof of such license will cause you to be rated ineligible for this position.

Category rating and selection procedures will be used to evaluate applications from this announcement.
