Duties

Help
  • Ensuring the proper operations of equipment overall as well as on a day-to-day basis, serving as a resource for imaging technologists performing the studies.
  • Providing guidance on imaging and analysis problems that are often novel and unsolved. This often requires the development of new hypothesis and analytical approaches to enable accurate and measurement of information.
  • Serving as an expert resource for departmental and NIH researchers wishing to perform more novel clinical research and may assist in the design, performance, and image analysis of such studies.
  • Assisting in departmental planning for future equipment and equipment software needs in CT, MR, US, X-RAY, Fluoroscopy and Interventional Radiology.
  • Overseeing the selection, procurement, installation, and shielding, of new equipment.
  • Overseeing the support and maintenance of imaging and ancillary equipment in designated areas of RADIS CT, MRI, US, General RAD/Fluoroscopy and Interventional Radiology.

Qualifications

Basic Education Requirement

A. Completion of a degree in physics or a related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics. Coursework included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.

B. Completion of a combination of education and experience that included completion of courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Coursework included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.

Additional Qualifications for the GS-13 level

One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: overseeing the support and maintenance of magnetic resonance imaging equipment; detecting and correcting malfunctions in imaging equipment; collaborating with clinicians, researchers, and technologists regarding instrumentation, processing, and exposure related aspects of imaging equipment; making recommendations on equipment and equipment software to meet departmental needs; and performing statistical analyses of quality control procedures results and generating report of the results.
