This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain DoD Personnel to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: As a Tying Tool Repairer with the Mat Sinking Unit you will repair automatic tying tools used in the construction of articulated concrete mattresses.
-The duty location of this position will be wherever the Mat Sinking Unit is located.

Help
  • Perform the full range of repairs to automatic tying tools which are utilized in the construction of articulated concrete mattress.
  • Diagnose, replace parts, adjust, clean for tools to return to operating condition.
  • Read and interprets blue prints and shop manuals pertaining to tying tools.
  • Utilize common hand tools of the mechanic's trade in making repairs.

There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Tying Tool Repairer without more than normal supervision. Duties include: Performing a full range of repairs to automatic tying tools used in revetment operations and diagnose problems associated with the tying tools. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Work assignments require the incumbent to stand most of the time, sit some of the time, stoop occasionally and to occasionally use tiring positions. Intermittent physical activity is exerted in manipulating hand tools and occasionally handling the semi-automatic tying tool weighing approximately 40 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Incumbent normally performs repairs, adjustments and maintenance in a work room separated from the mat boat operations. This work area has adequate ventilation and odors, fumes and smoke are of little significance. Normal noise conditions are such that they can be readily talked above. Dirt or grease conditions inherent in this repair work are frequently disagreeable.
