Duties

Help
  • Perform the full range of work involved in the installation, maintenance, repair, modification and testing of primary and secondary distribution systems.
  • Plan, lays-out, install, modify, test, maintain, and repair a variety of fixtures, hardware and equipment including transformers, generators, insulators, breakers, fuses, conductors, switches, cable, conduit, wire, control systems, and etc.
  • Clean, adjust, and repair electrical equipment such as Air and Vacuum Clad circuit breakers, protection relays, and remotely controlled supervisory equipment.
  • Perform a variety of additional tasks such as repairing electrical auxiliary equipment and systems.
  • Responsibilities include, distributing and controlling electrical energy through the primary electrical distribution system, which is connected to a commercial power source.
  • Operate standby diesel generation plant approximately once per month for a period of two to three hours.

  • This position requires heavy lifting up to 50lbs. in the regular performance of duties and occasionally more than 50lbs.

  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) High Voltage Electrician ~ without more than normal supervision.

Ability to perform common High Voltage Electrician duties which includes cleaning 13,800 KV Electrical Distribution and Generation Equipment. Ability to splice wires, seal connections, pull in conductors, assemble bus bars, and clean Air and Vacuum clad circuit breakers under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • PHYSICAL EFFORT: Work involves lifting and carrying weights up to 50 pounds, kneeling, stooping, crouching and standing for long periods of time. Uses coordination of eyes, hands, legs, and body to install, repair, and test electrical equipment in confined spaces such as manholes or enclosed switchgear, or in structures such as overhead bus and conduit assemblies. Climbs ladders in accomplishing work.
  • WORKING CONDITIONS: Works indoors and outdoors. Is exposed to heat and noise in power plants, to extremes of weather when outside. Subject to the possibility of high-voltage electric shock, burns, broken bones, cuts and bruises from working around high voltage equipment.
