Duties

The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13 . If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position. As an Auditor (Performance) (Field Auditor), you will:

  • Develop specific audit plans and milestones for completing the review. Plan, direct, control and coordinate all activities during assigned reviews.
  • Perform qualitative and quantitative research in a collaborative environment for the purpose of gathering background and other information to learn the audit subject's environment.
  • Research applicable laws, directives, and regulations to gain knowledge and understanding of the program areas being audited.
  • Lead the efforts of one or more auditors in research, fact-finding, interviewing, analysis, and formulation of findings and recommendations. Gather and analyze documentation to identify common findings and trends.

Qualifications

You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.

Specialized Experience:
For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position includes:

  • Using a computer and appropriate software to gather and analyze data, prepare presentations, and prepare audit work papers; AND
  • Conducting opening and exit conferences to present findings and recommendations; AND
  • Documenting results in audit reports with appropriate summaries, conclusions and recommendations; AND
  • Modifying audit methods and techniques to resolve auditing problems.

Education

The education generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If you are qualifying based on foreign education, you must submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency. Refer to the OPM instructions.

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in auditing or a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.

OR
Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:

A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination; or Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting, e.g., 15 semester hours.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (CONTINUED):
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Public Trust Background Investigation will be required.

- File a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report within 30 days of appointment and annually from then on.
- Pass a detailed background investigation.
- Be willing to travel an average of 1-5 days per month
