Duties

Help

Develops and manages a comprehensive training program to include implementation of orientation and annual training, execution of new initiatives, current training plan creation, and ongoing professional development. Oversees a team of Training and Curriculum Specialists (TCS) ensuring development of targeted and integrated training plans supporting the unique training needs of all professionals across CYP. Ensures consistent communication between Program Managers and Training teams. Serves as an Early Childhood Education/Youth Development resource by maintaining professional knowledge of relevant curriculum development and materials. Duties and responsibilities of the Training and Curriculum Supervisor includes training, classroom and program support, and compliance as described below. 

TRAINING: Ensures TCS(s) are effectively used across the CYP. Supervises TCS(s) and communicates regularly using a variety of methods such as email, meetings, and virtual communication, etc. Provides regularly scheduled and as needed one on one training team support. Demonstrates child and youth development and training expertise to role model, mentor, and coach. Confirms TCS complete required training. Overseas the development and implementation of a standardized training program in accordance with (IA W) Department of Defense (DoD) and United States Marine Corps (USMC) policy. Ensures TCS(s) develop targeted, integrated training plans that account for the common and unique training needs of CYP staff. Coaches and provides resources in training development, delivery, and feedback .skills. Conducts training as appropriate or needed or in the absence of a TCS. Guarantees CYP training opportunities include management, support, and direct care professionals. Supports career progression through the DoD Virtual Lab School (VLS) courses. Confirms training team properly implements the approved learning management system and supports Learning Development Plans. Arranges for subject matter experts to conduct/support specialized training to meet training requirements. Prepares training status reports and recommendations when needed. Identifies additional training needs. Stays current on and promotes professional development such as the Child Development Associate or the Military School-Age Credential. Assists Family Child Care (FCC) Director and FCC Monitor(s) in the accreditation process. Supports the inclusion process for participants and serves as a member of the Inclusion Action Team meetings as required. 

CLASSROOM/PROGRAM SUPPORT: Guarantees program wide quality and consistency of developmentally appropriate practices to include the environment, materials, and program structure. Oversees the implementation and execution of approved standardized curricula for children and youth. Responsible for lesson and activity plans accounting for participant's physical, social, emotional, cognitive and language development. Represents CYP in special projects such as pilot programs, process improvement teams, focus/working groups. Guarantees parent education and participation programs are administered. 

COMPLIANCE: Is abreast of and informs others on current policies, regulations, and program operating procedures. Aligns the CYP training program IA W DoD, USMC and accreditation standards. Conducts or coordinates assessments to evaluate and measure results of training program and materials. Manages and maintains standardization of all training practices and quality assurance. Prepares corrective action plans to remedy training deficiencies. Oversees accreditation processes. Carries out Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policies and communicates support of those policies to CYP professionals. 

PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT: Supervises a group of CYP TCS(s). Duties include but not limited to: distributing assignments, coaching, counseling, and mentoring; approving and disapproving leave; recommending and completing personnel actions; completing performance appraisals, training CYP professionals, keeping up-to-date and actively supporting the principles of the EEO program, and prevention of sexual harassment. Must be alert to alcohol and substance abuse, and take appropriate action. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training; program planning; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EVALUATIONS:

Qualifications

  •  A 4-year degree in Early Childhood Education or Child/Youth Development or a related field such as Elementary Education, Special Education, Family and Consumer Science (Early Childhood emphasis) AND 5 years of full time experience working with children and youth.
  • Knowledge of early childhood or youth education principles, concepts, and techniques to develop, interpret, monitor, and evaluate the execution of curriculum and age-appropriate activities.
  • Knowledge of adult learning techniques and strategies and experience training adult learners.
  • Must have the ability to coach and develop team members.
  • Prior experience with training design and delivery required, as is experience managing and developing trainers/coaches within a child and youth program or education setting is preferred.
  • Proven effective program and curricula skills. Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge of Curriculum design, adult learning theory, and training methods. Learning Management System experience is preferred.
  • Ability to support DoD certification, accreditation, and staff credentialing (Child Development Associate (CDA), Associate of Arts (AA) Degree) by ensuring that required 
  • training is administered and successfully accomplished to meet statutory and program requirements.
  • Must have the ability to provide guidance and leadership to employees and providers. Ability to identify and respond to emergency situations including evacuations, child illness, and physical and emotional disorders.

Must be able to obtain and maintain TIER-1 Child Care (CNACI) background checks which are required for positions that involve working with children under 18 years of age.
