Duties

Help

The Primary Purpose of this position is to assist the manager in running the private animal care facility.

The Primary Duties of this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Assists the manager with maintaining supply and resale inventories; places orders for needed items through local and stateside vendors.
  • Ensures internal controls are present to minimize the potential for fraud, waste, and abuse.
  • Supervises and trains staff on animal health and handling; ensuring all training requirements are met.
  • Monitors and maintains information for finances and customer usage, reporting to squadron, base and MAJCOM levels.
  • Responsible for daily office work, petty cash disbursements and payroll.
  • Monitors the health and well-being of the animals entrusted to facility; informs owner(s) of changes in health including illness and death.
  • Works closely with base and local veterinarians to ensure health and sanitation standards are met and practiced by all employees.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
  • Must have working knowledge of animal and kennel care.
  • Able to recognize common animal breeds and be familiar with their proper care.
  • Able to recognize potential health care problems and issues with animals.
  • Must have administrative experience working with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office Software, including the ability to develop and maintain Excel spreadsheets
  • Must possess skills in communicating with customers and dealing with the public.
One year working at the 52 FSS Pet Spa is desirable, but not required.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution in order to qualify.
