Duties

Help
  • Serves as Accounting Technician performing analysis and evaluation of financial and/or accounting data.
  • Reviews manual and automated records in order to determine whether they have been obligated, modified, or cancelled, investigates and follows up on long outstanding payables
  • Provides technical accounting support by receiving, controlling, recording, and reporting financial information related to the control and expenditure of funds.
  • Balances daily transaction receipts and disbursements with cash records and ensures safety of cash.
  • Endorses checks, prepares deposits, and certifies vouchers for statements.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is a Financial Management Level 1 Certified position per the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) 2012, Section 1599d. certification level must be achieved within 2 years of the hire date.
  • This position is Inclement Weather Essential. This means that you must be willing to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • The Financial Management Level 1 certification is a requirement for this position. Failure to obtain and maintain this certification within the required time may subject to adverse action and including removal from federal service.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience reconciling, reviewing, and processing request for funding; utilizing automated accounting systems to enter and retrieve financial data, and reviewing cash transaction receipts and disbursements for accuracy. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education:
One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Accounting, Banking, Finance, or any other major related.

Combination of Education and Experience:
A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
