Help

Leads in providing advice and analysis to the NIST Director on issues relating to policy for emerging technologies including artificial intelligence to inform the development of NIST and Departmental programs addressing innovation, trade, competition, and national security issues.
Provides subject matter expertise to support the continued build out of the Artificial Intelligence Safety Institute. Provides leadership as a senior subject matter expert in policy matters that involve NIST, DOC, and its bureaus, and the White House, including but not limited to AI and
other critical and emerging technologies. Develops science policy guidance andrecommendations for NIST and Departmental Leadership. Establishes strategies & ensures consistency of such policy implementations. Serves as a representative to other interagency
policy activities on matters related to critical and emerging technology. Engages in interactions with external, non-government orgs in matters related to science policy when appropriate.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

A. Degree: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

OR

B.
Combination of education and experience -- education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the above basic requirements: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level (ZP-IV at NIST) in the federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience in providing advice and anlysis to agency leadership on emerging technologies; Provides leadership as a senior subject matter expert in policy matters that involve large federal agencies, and the White House, including but not limited to Artificial Inteligence and other critical and emerging technologies.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
