Duties

Help
  • Assist Senior drill rig operators through routine maintenance on all equipment to include repairs, greasing and lubrication of equipment.
  • Operate drill rig equipment under the direct supervision of senior-level drill rig operators.
  • Operate government owned vehicles and apply knowledge of health and safety principles to safely prepare and operate a variety of motor vehicle equipment including drill rigs and support vehicles.
  • Apply technical and health and safety knowledge to safely prepare rigging for trailers and operate a variety of non-motor vehicles such as excavators, front end loaders, and forklifts.
  • Provide support to Field Exploration Unit projects through knowledge of tools and drill equipment and their respective applications in order to meet quality standards and mission requirements.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Required to participate in the Department of Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program to include passing a urinalysis drug testing prior to appointment and passing random urinalysis drug testing after appointment.
  • Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel required 70 to 100% of the time.
  • Must obtain and maintain a valid, State-issued Motor Vehicle Driver’s License.
  • Must participate in the Medical Surveillance Program to include passing a physical examination prior to appointment and annually after appointment.
  • Required to lift and frequently handle objects weighing 18 - 34 kilograms (40 to 75 pounds) and occasionally as much as 45 kilograms (100 pounds).
  • Heavy or awkward items are handled using hoists and other weight handling equipment, or with the aid of other employees.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a Drill Rig Operator Helper (MVO) to include the ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Abilities include (1) Performing both routine and non-routine maintenance and repair tasks on mechanical equipment and well pump systems; (2) Operating diesel and gasoline powered vehicles including drill rigs and support vehicles, tractors, backhoes, and mowers; (3) Performing maintenance on combustion-powered vehicles, equipment and mechanical or hydraulic systems to include troubleshooting, replacing and/or repairing defective parts, components, and systems; and (4) Utilizing a variety of tools and equipment. Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
