The employee will perform all kids of trades task involved in construction, repairing, or renovating a wide variety of types and sizes of marine craft and vessels and in connection with miscellaneous manufacturing and facility projects performed at the Yard.
Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include:
Assisting journeyman shipfitters in tacking and welding.
Erecting hull components on site in accordance with center line, base lines, buttock lines, water lines, such as struts, shaft tubes, foundations, and other hull appendages.
Reading blueprints and sketches, developing simple templates and layouts, and sub-assembly fabrications.
Selecting proper welding procedure, filler materials, and equipment; Utilizing a variety of ship fitting methods and processes for job layout, work sequence, and material requirements.
Preforming flame cutting with plasma cutting hand tools and performs tack welding with coated electrode, metallic arc, gas metal arc processes to erect or repair vessels.
Removing, repairing, replacing damaged parts of ship structure.
Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
