Duties

Help

Serves as a Child and Youth Program Assistant Director, and acts as Director in the Director's absence. As a full assistant, participates in management, planning, and implementation of the complete Child and Youth Program, providing quality care for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years. Coordinates play, recreation, and learning activities to foster individual and group activities development. Assists with the selection of equipment and learning materials to carry out an effective group program for all children participating. Ensures facility/outdoor venues maintain appropriate standards of condition and sanitation. Provides program oversight and accountability for the performance of assigned staff and the safety and well being of children and youth IAW DoD, Air Force, and local policies and standards. Ensures assigned staff follow risk management procedures (i.e. abuse prevention, identification, and reporting procedures; accident prevention, etc.). Monitors and analyzes adult/children ration sheets to ensure proper staffing policies are enforced. Prepares work schedule for assigned staff to meet ration and group size requirements. Ensures children/youth are appropriately supervised at all times. Develops policies, procedures to support program goals. Initiates request for recruitment. Supervises and evaluates employees based on establish performance standards as required. Provides appropriate staff professional recognition and/or disciplinary action. Recommends assigned staff for reassignment, promotion IAW Child and Youth Pay System Program Guidance dated October 2008. Conducts written observations of staff during all hours of operation, and evaluates employees based on establish performance standards. Supports budgets for staff annual training requirements. Ensures timely submission of personnel actions. Provides training for employees as required. Helps oversee the planning and implementation of an effective preschool program ensuring that the curriculum is planned with activities that develop the children's perceptual training in audio expression, visual memory, listening, hand-eye coordination, and small and large muscle coordination. Ensures that a creative art and music program is offered throughout the program. Oversees all administrative duties and maintenance records necessary for operation of the Child Development Center, to include quarterly staff meetings, maintenance of facilities, fire protection, and sanitation. Shares responsibility with the Director on all discrepancies noted on multidisciplinary reports. Participates in preparation of annual budget for the total Child Development Program. Implements and supervises certification requirements for the USDA Food Program. Oversees the commissary/grocery order and inventory of the kitchen supplies in coordination with cook. Provides input for changes in menus based on child/youth and parental suggestions. Maintains food program records as required. Maintains a sound publicity and promotional program to ensure maximum year round participation at the Center. Oversees the continuous publicity of the Family Child Care Program through such avenues as newsletters, newcomers briefings, flyers, the distribution of a Family Child Care Home newsletter, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned, to include serving as the Director in his/her absence.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
BASIC REQUIREMENT: Must have at least 3 months of experience that involved teaching children, or other work that demonstrated the ability to perform the duties of the position. Must have experience in selecting, training, and supervising childcare and preschool employees, family childcare providers, or other caregiving adults. Must have experience developing and implementing child development programs, including family day care programs, part-day preschool programs, and before and after school programs. Must have the ability to plan and organize work, analyze problems to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data and recognize solutions. Must possess comprehensive oral and written communication skills and analytical writing skills, and the ability to present ideas and proposals to a variety of audiences. Must successfully complete a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) and a State Criminal History Repository Check.

SPECIALIZED REQUIREMENT: Must have successfully completed a 4 year college or university degree with a major course of study which directly relates to early childhood education, youth development, or a related field, OR have a current Child Development Associate (CDA) or Youth Development credential. OR must have successfully completed at least 24 semester hours in a major course of study in education or appropriate Child and Youth Program field as indicated above, plus appropriate work experience that provided knowledge, skills, and abilities directly related to the duties described.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
