About the Position: Serves as Work Leader and Senior Maintenance Mechanic of operation and maintenance of flood control facilities, recreational sites, and other facilities with responsibility for planning, assigning, leading, and reviewing maintenance, repair, and operational tasks.

Duties

Help
  • Plans day-to-day work requirements, insures adequate supplies, material, equipment, and tools are on hand prior to the start of each job.
  • Diagnoses problems in a variety of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and plumbing equipment/systems of varying complexities and determines corrective measures.
  • Assigns work according to workload, grade level, and individual capability.
  • Participates in work assignments and personally performs the more difficult and complex tasks.
  • Work involves a variety of trades and labor occupations including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, concrete/masonry, welding, labor, and may involve water and sewage treatment operation and maintenance.
  • Participates in long range planning providing input for projected maintenance requirements including new construction or modification of existing facilities and determination.
  • Serves as the projects FEM (Facility Equipment Maintenance) Manager and oversees workflow utilization, validating work to be completed, setting maintenance priorities, distributing work orders, verifying completeness of work and work orders.
  • Conducts inspection of flood control operating facilities, dams, and appurtenances to insure proper operation and required maintenance of dam embankments, hydraulic gates, cranes, pumps, motors, valves, switches, contacts, circuits and relays.
  • Monitors dam, berms, and abutments for signs of stress in accordance with the requirements of the Dam Safety Plan and O and M Manual.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state issued drivers license.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid CDL Class A license within 24 months of appointment.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid USACE Boat Operators license within 24 months of appointment.
  • This is a random drug and alcohol testing position under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE MECHANIC LEADER ~ without more than normal supervision. - I have experience that demonstrates the ability to plan work for a variety of maintenance, repair, and operational tasks in a number of trades and labor occupations. I have the ability to assist with inspections of flood control operating facilities, dams, and appurtenances. I perform these tasks under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

  • Physical Effort: Works from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms where areas are hard to reach. Works requires standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and climbing, and may be performed in cramped positions, under equipment, structures, etc. Frequently required to lift and carry parts and items weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Working Conditions: Work is performed outside in extremes of weather or inside shop and other buildings. Work involves walking and climbing of steps, slopes, and uneven surfaces. There is danger of injury such as cuts, burns, electrical shock, and bruises while use of power tools and welding equipment, strains from lifting or work in awkward positions, and danger of drowning while working in proximity of the water.
