The United States Space Force (USSF) at Buckley Space Force Base is searching for Technical Advisor for the 11 SWS (NH-1515-03, GS-12/13 equivalent).

Description:
Performs operations, training and readiness assesments for 11 SWS' OBAC missile warning, tracking, targeting and battlespace awareness systems. Formulates, plans, directs and carries out to completion a variety of operations research analyses. Participates in product development utilizing OPIR system data, simulator data, Word documents, Excel spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations or other media for the creation of training and briefing products. Utilizes scientific inquiry in the development of mathematical models and computer programs to evaluate and predict the ability to support assigned projects, studies or problems. Develops and facilitates assessment efforts by applying organizational principles and applications to stakeholder processes and procedures. Attends meetings, conferences, briefings, seminars and professional development related to program planning, advanced technologies, technical proficiency and support system concepts.

The 11th Space Warning Squadron (11 SWS), located on Buckley Space Force Base, Colorado, utilizes Overhead Persistent Infrared data to develop novel applications in support of the Missile Warning, Tracking, and Battlespace Awareness mission areas. The squadron is tasked with employing experimental solutions that address emergent missile warning threat detection. Additionally, 11 SWS provides near-real time OPIR data exploitation to provide situational awareness for a myriad of military end users and civilian organizations.

Ideal Candidate:
To organize and interpret data to drive successful space operations and shape technology/resource investments. To support creation of advanced training scenarios for administration to the unit's space operators, enabling increased performance in high volume and/or advanced threat events. To broaden operations integration throughout Space Operations Command and other organizations by coordinating joint forums, interfacing with internal and external stakeholders, and identifying/documenting operational shortfalls and coordinating improvements.

Key Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge of the organizational and functional responsibilities and operations of an organization.
2. Expert knowledge and experience in overhead persistent infrared mission and missile warning mission areas; ability to apply relevant skills to generate accurate assessments of operations and readiness.
3. Skill in fact-finding, problem analysis, problem resolutions, and development of concrete action plans to solve problems.
4. Ability to gather, analyze and present facts, communicate effectively, using tact and courtesy and posses the ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines.
5. Ability to organize work, set priorities, and determine resource requirements; determine goals and strategies to achieve them; coordinate with other organizations; monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes.
6. Must have a Bachelor's degree in a science, technology, engineering or mathematics (STEM) related field; Master's degree in STEM field highly desired.
7. Must have experience with real world data through thesis research, internships, or work experience.
8. Ability to successfully complete projects with large or incomplete data and provide solutions.
9. Ability to persuade others to accept recommendations, work toward an agreement, and negotiate mutually acceptable solutions.
10. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
11. Ability to identify problems and use sound judgment and decisions to generate and evaluate alternatives and make recommendations.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret /SCI security clearance.
  • Required to handle and safeguard sensitive and classified information in accordance with regulations to reduce potential compromise.
  • May be required travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • May be required to work overtime on an unscheduled or emergency basis.
  • This position is eligible for telework 2-4 days a pay period.
  • This position will close after 5 business days or 75 applications.
  • This position has been identified as a designated position under the Air Force Drug Testing Plan. Incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use.
