Duties

Help
  • Perform a full range of pharmaceuticals duties, to include dispensing regular and controlled drugs, interpreting prescriptions, and processing orders to determine kind, strength, and dosage of drugs dispensed.
  • Provide information and consultant advice to the prescriber on contraindications, interactions, and side effects.
  • Answers routine inquiries from doctors, nurses, and other medical staff on the availability of specific items, e.g., drugs in stock, new drugs on order.
  • Prepare, package, and label prescriptions ordered by the pharmacist in accordance with (IAW) pharmaceutical rules, regulations, and procedures.
  • Conduct interviews with patients or their caregivers for the purpose of establishing medication history.
  • Provide drug information to patients and caregivers and counsels patients/caregivers on proper medication use.
  • Knowledge of pharmacy practices, procedures, and operations IAW State, Federal, and Air Force regulations to perform a variety of complex and technical functions, i.e., receiving, safeguarding, and issuing of regular and controlled prescriptions.

  • A favorable National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) may be required for this position.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
  • Requires Basic Life Support certification sponsored by the American Heart Association.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is therefore subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations.
  • This position is covered by Health Affairs Policy 97006, 23 Oct 96 the position requires the employee to obtain Hepatitis B immunizations and Tuberculin testing unless exempt by physician.
  • This position requires a pre-employment physical to include required to assess the selectee’s ability to discern colors and contrasts

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: Experience must have provided a basic knowledge of: Pharmaceutical nomenclature; characteristics, strengths, and dosage forms of pharmaceuticals; pharmaceutical systems of weights and measures; and the variety of procedures and techniques involved in the care, storage, repackaging, bulk compounding, and distribution of pharmaceuticals.

Specialized Experience is defined as: One year of specialized experience which includes verifying accuracy of pharmaceutical labels, utilizing automated pharmacy systems to enter and retrieve data, and rotating pharmacy stock. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education: A half year (i.e., 9 semester hours) of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Pharmacology. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.

OR

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
